A full vinyl wrap on a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y usually costs a few thousand dollars in the US. Below are the price ranges published in 2026, what changes the quote, what Tesla charged for its own wrap service, and how to try the color on your car for free before you spend anything.
Tesla wrap prices at a glance
| Job | Model 3 | Model Y |
|---|---|---|
| Full color change, standard gloss vinyl | About $2,800–$4,200 | About $3,200–$5,000 |
| Partial wrap (roof, hood or accent panels) | About $800–$2,200 | |
| Clear PPF, front end only | About $1,500–$2,500 | |
| Colored or full-body PPF | Roughly double a vinyl color change | |
| Paint Shop wrap (digital, on the screen only) | Free | |
Vinyl, partial and PPF figures are US ranges from the Wraptor Tesla wrap cost guide (July 2026). The low end assumes gloss film in a standard color from an established shop; the high end covers premium films and more detail work. Prices outside the US, and between cities, can differ a lot.
Why a Model Y costs more than a Model 3
Film and labor scale with the surface. The same guide estimates about 225 sq ft of film for a Model 3 and about 290 sq ft for a Model Y, so the Model Y needs more material and more hours.
What changes the quote
- Finish. Gloss in a standard color is the cheapest. Matte, satin, chrome and color-shift films cost more to buy and are harder to install.
- Coverage. Door jambs, a chrome delete or wrapping only the roof all move the price up or down.
- Prep. Scratches, chips or failing clear coat have to be fixed first, because vinyl shows every flaw underneath.
- Shop and region. Labor rates differ between shops and cities. Ask what film brand, warranty and removal terms are included.
What Tesla charged for its own wraps
Tesla sold factory wraps for a while, which gives a useful reference point:
- October 2023: colored paint protection film for Model 3 and Model Y at $7,500–$8,000, and clear PPF at $5,000, first at two California locations.
- Late 2024: Tesla switched to vinyl and cut the price to $4,000 for Model 3 and Model Y ($4,500 for Cybertruck).
- August 2026: the wrap products disappeared from the Tesla Shop without an announcement. Tesla still lists XPEL paint protection film through certified installers.

Vinyl wrap or PPF?
A vinyl wrap changes the color. Paint protection film is thicker (about 8–12 mil, against 3–4 mil for typical vinyl) and is mainly there to stop chips and scratches; clear PPF keeps the factory color. Colored PPF does both, at a higher price. Many owners put clear PPF on the front end only, the area that takes the most stone chips.
Digital wrap vs real wrap: what you actually pay for
Two very different things are both called a “Tesla wrap”. The comparison below is what we tell owners who ask which one they need.
| Paint Shop digital wrap | Vinyl wrap on the car | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free (AI generation on this site uses credits) | About $2,800–$5,000 for a Model 3 or Model Y, $5,000–$8,000 for a Cybertruck |
| What changes | The 3D car on the touchscreen and in the Tesla app | The real paint surface, visible to everyone |
| Time | Minutes: design, export the PNG, load it in Toybox | Two to five days at a shop, plus a quote visit |
| Reversible | Instantly, switch wraps as often as you like | Removal is about $500–$1,000 and takes hours |
| Protects the paint | No | Vinyl a little, PPF a lot |
| Best for | Trying colors and designs, personalizing the screen | A color you have already decided on |
The sensible order is the free one first. Pick the color on the 3D car, live with it on the screen for a week, then take the screenshots to a shop if you still want it on the real car.
What Tesla owners actually download
Our own download data shows which cars people wrap most, at least on the screen: the live box further down this page gives the current share by model, and the full breakdown is on the Paint Shop wrap statistics page, with separate pages for the Model Y, Model 3 and Cybertruck and a month-by-month view. The model-specific cost guides go deeper on each car: Model Y wrap cost, Model 3 wrap cost and Cybertruck wrap cost.
Try the color for free before you pay
A wrap is a big purchase, and color is hard to judge from a small swatch. Try it on your own car first:
- Open the wrap editor, pick your exact model and paint the 3D car. Rotate it and compare a few shades side by side.
- Look through the most popular Tesla wrap colors and the free wrap gallery for ideas.
- Export the PNG and load it in Paint Shop (
Toybox → Paint Shop). Live with it for a week; the Paint Shop guide shows how. - Take the 3D preview to the shop when you ask for a quote, so they see exactly what you want.
The Paint Shop file is a small screen texture, not a print file, so the shop will still measure the car and prepare its own material. Our Paint Shop wrap vs vinyl wrap guide explains the difference.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which film brand and finish is in the quote, and is it the full color change or only the outside surfaces?
- Are door jambs, the chrome delete and badge removal included?
- What warranty covers the film and the installation, and what does removal cost later?
- Can you see Tesla wraps the shop has already done?
